2016 XANADU DJL SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON (BEST OF THE BEST IN SEMILLON SAUVIGNON BLEND) | Buy Here
Wild-yeast fermented in French oak (10% new) and lees-stirred for several months. The bouquet immediately tells you complex vinification has worked brilliantly, with struck match aromas, the layered palate of utterly exceptional intensity, with fruit, oak and acidity welded together so tightly it’s impossible (and irrelevant) to unpick them.
2014 XANADU CABERNET SAUVIGNON | Coming Soon
91% Cabernet, 5% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot, matured for 14 months in French Oak (40% new). Great colour is no surprise, nor is the majesty of the cassis-filled bouquet and palate. While there is an element of barrel selection (and trickle down of lesser barrels, and possible promotion) each wine does have its own personality, part shaped by the vineyard, part in the winery. Here the extended maceration has refined the tannins without stripping the fruit.
2015 XANADU STEVENS ROAD CHARDONNAY | Buy Here
Matured for 9 months in French Oak (25% new) before a best barrels selection blended in Nov ’14. Has considerable drive and complexity; grapefruit and white peach utterly dominate the building up of the flavours on the long palate. Fruit, oak and acidity all act synergistically.
2014 XANADU RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON | Buy Here
Includes 5% each of Malbec and Petit Verdot, matured for 14 months in French barriques before the blend assembled from a best barrels selection and then returned to oak for a further 2 months. An exceedingly clever bonding of fresh and complex fruit, fresh cassis at the core, wrapped in ripe tannins, herbs and cedary French oak; the length is impeccable, as is the balance. Easy when you’re in Margaret River.
2015 XANADU RESERVE CHARDONNAY | Buy Here
Matured in French oak (30% new) for 9 months. Elegant, supple and spring-day fresh stone fruit, white peach, nectarine and a little Granny Smith apple, the oak subtle, the finish very long and clean.
2014 XANADU DJL CABERNET SAUVIGNON | Buy Here
86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot. The great crimson-purple colour telegraphs a steel hand in a velvet glove. The wine has great structure and texture, yet is so refined it is only medium-bodied, with all the expected cassis, blackcurrant and mulberry fruit. Bargain, of course.
